EU Zero-Emission Policy: The Push for Electric Machinery
The EU’s new zero-emission policy for construction machinery is pushing the industry to shift from diesel to electric power. The regulation requires that by 2030, all new compact construction machinery sold in urban areas must be zero-emission, which means diesel machines will be banned in most European cities. This policy makes electric crawler undercarriage a hot trend in the industry.

The Problem of Traditional Heavy Chassis for Electric Machines
Traditional heavy undercarriage has high weight and power consumption, which is not suitable for electric machines that have limited battery capacity. For example, a standard 3-ton rubber track chassis weighs 350kg, and the drive system consumes 5kW of power when working. For an electric mini excavator with a 20kWh battery, that means the battery can only last 3 hours of working time, which is not enough for a full work day.
To solve this, MAGEON developed a lightweight electric crawler undercarriage after 18 months of R&D. First, we use high-strength lightweight aluminum alloy for the frame parts that don’t bear heavy impact. This reduces the total weight of the chassis by 15%, from 350kg to 297.5kg, without losing load capacity. The lighter chassis also reduces the total weight of the electric machine, which means the battery can last longer.
Second, we optimized the hydraulic drive system. We used a new type of low-flow hydraulic motor, which reduces the power consumption of the drive system by 20%, from 5kW to 4kW. This means the same 20kWh battery can now last 4.5 hours of working time, a 50% improvement.

The Market Prospect of Electric Undercarriage
Industry forecast shows that electric crawler undercarriage will account for 22% of the compact undercarriage market in Europe by 2030. MAGEON is already cooperating with several European electric machinery brands, including a German electric excavator brand, to develop customized solutions.
